The Sound Design of ‘The Lost Thing’

The title card for the short film The Lost ThingI have a lot of friends that work in the post-production industry.  In fact, Lance studied audio engineering when we were both at Emerson College.  I studied film production.  It was helpful to have the perspective of these people when I started making my own short films.  And now I can recognize when there is really great sound design in a film.

Now, with that preamble away, I give you the sound design of The Lost Thing.  The Lost Thing is an amazing  Australian short film that won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short at the 83rd Academy Awards.  I had the privilege of being able to see this film in a theater, and I can tell you it is a wonderful experience.

The Lost Thing is about a mysterious creature that shows up and doesn’t fit in.  It searches for the place where it belongs.  It’s a wonderful film and the SoundWorks Collection have put together a great look at how the sound design was created for the film.  Check it out.
