The SoundWorks Collection is at it again. I recently posted their profile of foley artist Gary Hecker, but now they have a new and very interesting profile. The work of the SoundWork Collection is to shed light on professions in the sound industry that not many people think about, such as foley. Having made short films, I think about foley a lot. But, admittedly, I rarely think about what Zack Hemsey does.
Hemsey is a composer, but not of film scores. His pieces of music end up in the trailers of movies or in advertising campaigns. His work has been used in the trailers for Christopher Nolan’s Inception and Ben Affleck’s The Town, amongst many others. And when you think about it, the music in a trailer is incredibly important. It has to carry the weight of informing an audience of the tone and the experience of an entire movie in less than three minutes.
And based on the work he’s done so far, Zach Hemsey is damn good at it. Check out the profile, which features a lot of his work.
