Sadly, Christopher Nolan will be leaving the Batman franchise after The Dark Knight Rises. This begs the question: who will take over the franchise after him? Because with the first two movies making 1.3 billion dollars worldwide, Warner Bros is going to continue to make Batman movies. But who will they turn to and what direction will the movies take? The LA Times Hero Complex lead writer Geoff Boucher wondered about this too. So he teamed up with graphic artist Sean Hartter to create a series of movie posters of possible takes by other directors.
While the posters aren’t indicative of the directors’ individual styles, they do have a cool unifying style of looking like old movie posters from the 1930s, which I approve of. Pay close attention to the posters because there are a lot of fun jokes made in casting decisions, as well as who is credited with the score and screenplay.
The only thing I’m wondering after looking at all of these is where is Duncan Jones in this mix? He would seem like another pick that could make an excellent Batman movie.
For more explanation you can check out all of the LA Times Hero Complex entries about the posters:
Matthew Vaughn, Todd Phillips, and Wes Anderson
Rob Marshall, Brad Bird, and Guillermo del Toro
Ang Lee, Catherine Hardwicke, and Guy Ritchie
Martin Scorsese, Hayao Miyazaki, and Neill Blomkamp
Tim Burton, Zack Snyder, and Ridley Scott
