May The 4th Be With You: Star Wars Timeline

The A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away credit from Star WarsLast year on Star Wars Day, I wrote a deleted scene featuring Leia in her slave outfit.  That was a lot of fun.  However, this year I decided on something more academic.  I’ve always wondered exactly how long ago is the “long time ago” referenced in the opening credits of all the Star Wars movies.  Fortunately, I no longer have to wonder.

The lovely people over at io9 used some reference points from The Star Wars Expanded Universe, they were able to calculate some dates for events and relate them to the timeline of our galaxy.  The results are incredibly interesting.

A timeline that places years on events in the Star Wars universe made by io9

It kinda blows my mind that the Star Wars stories only go back a few hundred years from where we are now.

If you want to read about how exactly they figured this out, read the io9 post.  It’s a good read.

Happy Star Wars Day!  May the 4th be with you!
