After posting some of Dennis Calvert’s light painting photography, I was contacted by Wes Whaley. Wes directed me to his flickr page where he has posted some impressive light paintings. Light painting involves using moving lights to “paint” designs during extremely long exposures of photographs. Wes Whaley’s work is really interesting to me. He seems to like using circular shapes that are made up of intricate patterns. While these are impressive and quite beautiful, my favorites among his work are when he combines multiple elements like the circular patterns with straight lines and silhouettes. When he combines those elements, Whaley’s work becomes more than just beautiful, it becomes emotional as it seems to tell a story.
Check out a few of my favorites.
The most incredible thing about these photos is that the vast majority of them came straight out of the camera with no editing. There are dozens more to see on Wes Whaley’s flickr photostream.
