NHL 13 Features Are Being Announced

New gameplay innovations are being announced by EA Sports for the upcoming NHL 13 game

Smooth-skating PK Subban has never looked this good in the digital world.

It’s that time of year again!  EA Sports is starting to unveil the innovations that they are incorporating into their upcoming release of the NHL 13 hockey video game.  Last year’s big announcement was interactive goalies.

What do they have in store for us this year?

For NHL 13, EA Sports has completely redone the skating engine for all of the players.  With their new True Performance Skating, players will now move around with physics-based skating and over 1,000 new animations.  There will be multiple different skating styles to authentically replicate how a player actually skates in real life.  It looks pretty sweet; check it out in this video:

EA Sports has also overhauled the AI with EA SPORTS Hockey IQ:

An innovative new A.I. system that governs the behaviors of players, goalies and team systems. In previous NHL games, players were only aware of skaters in their immediate proximity and goalies could only react to the player in control of the puck. With EA SPORTS Hockey I.Q., all players are now fully aware of every other player on the ice, resulting in quicker, smarter and more true-to-life decision-making. EA SPORTS Hockey IQ also delivers the deepest and most customizable set of real-world hockey systems and strategies ever for the franchise.

NHL 13 will also include an online GM mode, where you can be a general manager in a league with other players who are managing their own teams online.  I’m not quite sure how this will work in terms of playing games against other GMs, as it would seem that a league-wide schedule would require a strict regimen of playing time.  That’s awesome for some people, but for casual gamers, not so much.  It’ll be intriguing to see how this one works out.

And finally, relive history with NHL Moments Live, a new game mode that allows you to jump into real-life game scenarios and recreate or rewrite history.

I have to say I don’t quite have the same feeling I have come to expect from seeing the announcements of the new NHL game each year, but in EA Sports I trust and I’m still looking forward to playing the new game.

Oh who am I kidding…  New game, new features?

Oh my god, I’m so excited!
