Every year, the company I work for goes to Paris, France for a big industry trade show. I had the privilege of going last year, but I didn’t get to do much sightseeing. This year, I got to go again, and I made sure I went to see the most famous tourist attraction in Paris: the Eiffel Tower.
You always see the great tower in pictures and postcards and movies, and it always looks majestic. But I was not prepared. Maybe it was all of the mini souvenir statuettes that I see. Or maybe it was because of all of the times I’ve seen it in the media. But when I finally saw it for myself, it was awe-inspiring…
The first thing I thought when I saw the Eiffel Tower was, “This thing is huge!” [cue That's What She Said joke]. Of course, I didn’t expect a it to be the size of the little statuettes, but… it’s just a lot different when you see it in the media compared to when you see it in person. You look up and the thing is just absolutely towering over you. I guess that’s why they call it a tower.
And at night, it’s especially impressive with all of the lights illuminating the structure. Everything just seems magnified.
After we took some pictures, we crossed the street to take a look at the surrounding area. We were about to head back when we started hearing gasps. When we turned around, the majestic Eiffel Tower took it to the next level.
Unfortunately, my pictures couldn’t capture nearly the same effect as you get if you see it in person. So yes, these pictures I’m sharing here are kind pointless, because you’re not seeing it for yourself. You’re seeing my pictures, so I guess I’m perpetuating the cycle.
The point is if you ever go to Paris, GO SEE THE EIFFEL TOWER. You will not be disappointed if you do, and you’ll be missing out if you don’t.
I didn’t have the time to go up the tower, but I’ve heard the view from up there is breathtaking. Next time I’m in Paris with some free time, that’s what I’ll be doing.
I would also like to point out that these pictures were taken on my iPhone 4S since we went straight to the tower after getting out of the trade show. I didn’t have time to go pick up my Canon 7D, but for a phone, I think these pictures came out pretty well.
