Supercut Saturday: The 50 Best “Very Special” Episodes

Tiffani Thiessen in the Peer Pressure episode of the television show Saved by the BellA supercut is a massive compilation highlighting a very specific element of movies or television. Usually this is used to point out an overused cliché. Sometimes it is used to highlight the idiosyncrasies of a particular artist, usually an actor. These supercuts are usually used to criticize but can also be a celebration.

Today, we take time out from the jokes to bring you a very special edition of Supercut Saturday.  Like literally.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, a “very special” episode of sitcom refers to an episode where the writers of the show have decided to address an issue or cause or problem to teach a moral lesson.  Jest made a video counting down the top 50 of these kind of episodes.  While a lot of people mock these episodes, they still have a lot of power.  Which is why I felt compelled to post this, even though it isn’t really a supercut.  But close enough.

Check it out.  Thank you.

Millennium Falcon Guitar

The Star Wars Millennium Falcon Guitar

She can play the "Freebird" guitar solo in less than 12 parsecs.

Okay, so we’ve seen Darth Vader playing a guitar.  But wouldn’t it have been perfect if he had been playing this guitar?

“Asteroids do not concern me, Admiral.  I want that guitar, not excuses.”

Anyways, this is a real guitar.  A real, working guitar.  Wanna see it in action? Read the rest of this entry »

‘Kodachrome 2010′ – A Short Documentary About Kodak’s Landmark Film

An old car shot using Kodachrome from the short documentary Kodachrome 2010Though my most recent projects have been shot digitally, my heart lies with film.  So it has been sad for me to watch Kodak’s fall.  This short documentary tracks the rise and fall of Kodachrome, the world’s first color film, manufactured by Kodak.  While the documentary is very informative about how Kodachrome works and what separates from all the other types of film stock out there, what Xander Robin does best in his film is show off the beauty of the format.

Watch it and enjoy how wonderful these images are.

A Fantastically Bitter ’2 Broke Girls’ Trailer

The title card for the television show 2 Broke GirlsI constantly have to drive by billboards for the show 2 Broke Girls here in Los Angeles.  And every time it makes me sad.  Every-single-time.  It just seems so calculated to play to the lowest possible level.  And in a time when we have such amazing comedies as Parks and Recreation and Community, this feels particularly egregious.  And this is coming from a guy that has, in the past, watched and enjoyed episodes of Two and a Half Men.  So yeah, 2 Broke Girls is bad.

And I am no the only one that feels this way.  This fake trailer for the show, which is made entirely of footage from the show, is so amazingly angry and bitter.  I love it.  And it starts with such a fantastic opening question. Check it out.

Harry Potter Deleted Scenes

Harry Potter Deleted Scenes screencap

Cue "Hedwig's Theme."

It’s not uncommon to have access to extra footage of your favorite movies.  These deleted scenes are often included nowadays in DVD and Blu-Ray discs to give viewers privileged content and added incentive to purchase the discs.

The Harry Potter DVD’s and Blu-Rays have a wealth of extra features, but I have a video that you won’t find on any of the retail discs.  In fact, the only place you can see this video is right here on this website… Read the rest of this entry »

Sweet Short: ‘Ruin’ by Wes Bell

The overgrown cityscape from the short film Ruin by Wes BellWes Bell’s Ruin is amazing.  Just flat out amazing.  It’s beautiful.  No like really.  Like sometimes it is hard to believe this was animated.  The short film takes place in an apocalyptic future.  However, unlike the usual barren desert landscapes, Ruin‘s world is lush, with vegetation having completely taken over the city.  And you are going to watch the main character run and race through through that landscape in extraordinary fashion.

No really.  You are.  Watch it.

Parkour Cat Is Awesome

Parkour Cat hanging outside the window waiting to jump

This cat has nowhere to run. But plenty of opportunities for free running...

American Ninja Warrior has finally made its way to network television, and last night I enjoyed watching one of my favorite TV shows of all time on NBC.  I miss my college days when I could watch Ninja Warrior for hours on end on G4.  Now I don’t even have G4.  That’s depressing.

While watching, it reminded me of the American Kitten Warrior that G4 did on Attack Of The Show.  Hahaha oh kittens.  While putting innocent kittens through an impossible obstacle course was hilarious and cute, this parkour cat is no joke.  Check it out. Read the rest of this entry »
