Supercut Saturday: Get Out of There!

Jason Statham with long hair, on a cell phone.A supercut is a massive compilation highlighting a very specific element of movies or television. Usually this is used to point out an overused cliché. Sometimes it is used to highlight the idiosyncrasies of a particular artist, usually an actor. These supercuts are usually used to criticize but can also be a celebration.

Seeing as last week’s supercut was about people being put into bad situations at a moments notice, I thought this one would be a bit kinder.  Today’s supercut is about people being warned that a bad situation is about to happen and they should “get out of there.”  Granted, most of the time this warning comes too late.  But hey, at least they were warned.

Check it out.

Star Wars Weekends At Disney World

Disney Star Wars Weekends Yoda Poster

"Trim the hedges, I must. Shaped like a mouse, they shall be."

So let’s see… Disney has a legendary movie studio.  They also have a collection of the most famous theme parks in the world.  They own ABC and ESPN.  They own Marvel Entertainment.  Gosh, what else do they do?

Um, they apparently do an annual Star Wars Weekends event at the Walt Disney World Resort to honor everyone’s favorite space-themed science fiction series (that’s right Trekkies, I said it).

What are Star Wars Weekends?  Um, the best theme park event in the history of theme parks… Read the rest of this entry »

‘Downton Arby’s’ – A ‘Downton Abbey’ Parody

A close up of a note from the Downton Abbey parody Downton Arby'sDownton Abbey has been kind of a phenomenon.  This past awards season the show received all kinds of nominations, snagging a few Emmys in the process.  And with good reason.  It is hard to find someone that will say a bad word about it.  But with success comes parody, and this one is awesome.

Downton Arby’s reenacts the plot of Downton Abbey but set within a singular Arby’s franchise.  It’s pretty great, with a great performance from the wonderful Richard Kind.  Check it out.

‘The Idle Quest’ Episode 5: “A Magic Moment”

Ian Wallace as Max in the fifth episode of season one of The Idle QuestA month ago I posted about episode one and episode two of The Idle Quest, my web series about slacker wizards.  Episode three sent our wizards our on their journeys, and episode four saw them encounter conflict along the way to their goals.  Now, with episode five  we have reached the finale for season one!  Max and Stuart will have to figure out how to solve their problems.

And they choose some fairly unorthodox (and over zealous) paths.  So now kick back and enjoy the finale of season one where we go out with a bang.  Literally.  (Not literally).  But it is still totally worth watching.

Bring Magic To Life With Incantor, A Real World MMO Game

Incantor video game for smartphones.

Wand + Smartphone = EpicFunTime

So you’re probably confused by the title.  That’s okay.  I am too.

Bring magic to life?  How?  By using a physical wand that you use to cast virtual spells.

A real world Mass-Multiplayer Online Game?  Isn’t that an oxymoron?  Well, yes and no.  MMO because it’s played in the online community via your smartphone.  But real world because you physically walk around and interact with other Incantors.  By waving your wand and casting spells.  At each other.  Like in a duel.  Holy shit.

My Harry Potter senses are tingling…

“Tell me more!  Tell me more!” you say.  Well read on, I say… Read the rest of this entry »

WTF Wednesday: Star Wars/Star Trek Dog Costume Contest

The sign for The Brooklyn Mutt ShowNormally Lance handles the WTF Wednesday posts, like he did today.  But I stumbled upon something today that I had to post to give a double helping of WTF Wednesday.  Apparently there is such a thing as The Brooklyn Mutt Show.  This is a dog show which seems to feature the usual tricks of a dog show. But there is one element at this show that isn’t at most dog shows.

That would be the part when the dogs are dressed up as characters from Star Wars and Star Trek.  Sometimes it looks pretty awesome and sometimes it just looks sad.  Check it out.

Patton Oswalt Finds the First First Commenter

A number 1 foam finger from the Funny or Die video First Commenter with Patton OswaltPatton Oswalt is an amusing guy. Whether he is doing his stand up routines.  Or getting thrown out of movie theaters.  I’ve always found him pretty funny.  So I am a fan of the Funny or Die video I have to present to you today.

If you spend time on the internet, you may have noticed that the first comment on YouTube videos or articles will commonly just be that one word: first.  It is really annoying.  At least to me.  It just seems pointless, and borderline disrespectful to the authors of the content that is being commented on.  So the question arises: who was the first douche that did this?

Patton Oswalt decided to find out.  And it is pretty damn funny.

Darth Vader And Son Children’s Book

Darth Vader and Son by Jeffrey Brown children's book cover

If Luke's ice cream cone is blue, I think Darth Vader's should be red. Just sayin'.

So um… before I get into this… if you haven’t seen Star Wars yet, get the fuck off of my website MAJOR SPOILER WARNING.

Anyhoo…

As we all know by now, Darth Vader is the father of Luke (and Leia) Skywalker.  They never met before, well, they tried to kill each other, but what if they were never separated?  What if Vader had known about his two children and decided to be a father?  It would have been so cute to watch Darth Vader and little Luke Skywalker playing ball together…

Well wonder no more, for there is a book that illustrates just that.  Take a look at Darth Vader And Son, a children’s book by Jeffrey Brown… Read the rest of this entry »
